Siegemund d. Mladenovic in three – It could really go either way but Siegemund has been just awesome in Stuttgart and could go for her second WTA title.
Sharapova d. Mladenovic in three – Sharapova’s biggest test yet. Think Mladenovic will snatch a set but Sharapova will probably get into her first final in almost three years.
Halep d. Siegemund in three – Siegemund played an absolute thriller against Pliskova and should be able to replicate such kind of performance against Halep but I think the Romanian will be too solid and be ready for the drop shot barrage.
Mladenovic d. Suarez Navarro in three – Hunch with Mladenovic after an upset win over Kerber.
Sharapova d. Kontaveit in two – Kontaveit is on fire having reached the final in Biel and now making the Stuttgart quarterfinals, her first Premier QF. However I don’t think she can do too much damage over a less rusty Sharapova.
Halep d. Sevastova in two – Last year Halep double bagelled Sevastova in the Bucharest final on clay (!) Think Halep has a really good chance of making the final here.
Pliskova d. Siegemund in three – Preview
Round 2 (6/8)
Kerber d. Mladenovic in three – Upset alert considering Mladenovic had a great win over Lucic-Baroni and Kerber is pretty vulnerable. Can see Mladenovic taking it to a decider but Kerber, buoyed by the home crowd and support, should be able to eek out the win.
Suarez Navarro d. Vesnina in three – Vesnina notched just her second win after her Indian Wells triumph over Daria Kasatkina yesterday, but on clay Suarez Navarro’s more consistent.
Muguruza d. Kontaveit in two – You never know what’s up with Muguruza but I think she’ll get through this in a tight two setter.
Sharapova d. Makarova in two – Sharapova has won all their previous six encounters and had a brilliant win over Vinci yesterday considering that it was her first match in over a year.
Sevastova d. Konta in three – Going for the upset in this one. Sevastova’s the better clay courter and Konta looked troubled in her opener against Osaka but managed to edge out the win in three
Halep d. Strycova in two – Strycova played a great match against Brady, but the Romanian has all the weapons to beat her especially on clay where Strycova’s not so reliable. Furthermore, Strycova’s last win over Halep came in 2010.
Siegemund d. Kuznetsova in three – Going for my original draw prediction. Having confidence in Siegemund on home soil.
Pliskova d. Vandewghe in three – Have no idea for this one. Both players’ game doesn’t suit the clay very well, and Vandeweghe already had a match on the surface. Could see a potential upset here.
Round 1 (6/12)
Lucic-Baroni d. Mladenovic in three – It’s the first prediction and I don’t know who to pick! Both are big-hitters, love clay but are equally erratic. Lucic-Baroni just?
Kasatkina d. Vesnina in two – Very high on Kasatkina coming into this clay court season.
Suarez Navarro d. Korpatsch in two – Suarez Navarro should win.
Konjuh d. Kontaveit in three – Kontaviet reached the final in Biel recently, but going for Konjuh here on the quicker clay surface.
Sharapova d. Vinci in three – Hmm this is confusing. Sharapova’s first opponent in a year is going to be the slice and dice Vinci. It’ll be interesting to see if the Russian can handle the variety in her first match after her ban. Heart goes for Vinci, head goes for Sharapova…
Radwanska d. Makarova in three – Solely because Makarova is in pretty bad form. Radwanska is vulnerable on clay.
Konta d. Osaka in three – Ooh nice match up. Osaka has already played three matches in Stuttgart after coming from qualifying, and should likely be adapted to the surface already. This could go the distance with Konta not on her favourite surface.
Stosur d. Sevastova in two – Stosur is a player that I think could make a deep run in Stuttgart.
Strycova d. Brady in two – Strycova for the win.
Kuznetsova d. Bertens in two – Would pick Bertens if she was in better form but she has been horrid of late.
Siegemund d. Zhang in three – I would pick Zhang on other surfaces in this match up, but since it’s on clay, Siegemund should take it.
Ostapenko d. Vandewghe in three – Going for the upset in this one. Ostapenko is another qualifier who has already played three matches, but Vandeweghe is coming off a brilliant run in the Fed Cup. Pretty undecided on this one!
