Day 6 – Shenzhen Predictions
Halep d. Begu in two sets – Preview
Siniakova d. Sharapova in three sets – Preview
Day 5 – Shenzhen Predictions
Begu d. Babos in two sets – Babos has a chance in this one, but I believe she will be too erratic to make moves in this one. Begu leads the head to head, 2-1.
Sharapova d. Diyas in two sets – Sharapova went three in Riske in her R2 match but it was still a good match from the Russian, the only disappointing stats were the break point conversions. Diyas has weapons, but I think Sharapova will neutralise them with her hard-hitting groundstrokes. The Russian leads the head to head, 2-0.
Halep d. Sabalenka in two tight sets – Preview
Siniakova d. Kr.Pliskova in three sets – I think this will be a very fun match. this will be Siniakova’s highest ranked opponent of the year and with Kr.Pliskova brimming with confidence, she will definitely cause huge problems. In the end though I think Siniakova’s all court game will be able to expose Kr.Pliskova’s weaknesses such as the movement.
Day 4 – Shenzhen Predictions
Halep d. Duan in three sets – Actually went for Duan(!) in my full draw, expecting Halep to be slightly rusty, but she came out pretty fast out of the blocks against Gibbs in a fun match. Duan has all the weapons to challenge Halep, she actually pushed the Romanian to three sets in Eastbourne, but she definitely lacks the mental fortitude when it comes to the important moments. Halep to win in three tight sets.
Siniakova d. Y.Wang in two sets – Expecting a comfortable match for Katerina, she played well in her first match of 2018 in a clean, solid performance.
Begu d. Alexandrova in three sets – Alexandrova has the power and definitely has the potential to cause the upset. Furthermore, Begu’s serve has seemed abit lacklustre in her first match but I feel Begu will be the more clutch in the big moments.
Kr.Pliskova d. Bogdan in two sets – Siding with Kr.Pliskova. Would not be the least surprised if Kristyna is unable to back up her win against Ostapenko but she must be brimming with confidence right now, wouldn’t she?
~ No Shenzhen Predictions for Day 3 , sorry ~
Day 2 – Shenzhen Predictions
Zhang d. Blinkova in two sets – Could be a tough opener for Zhang if Blinkova is on form, but I’m expecting Zhang’s experience to prevail in this one.
Halep d. Gibbs in two sets – Should be comfortable for Halep, she has had a couple of matches before this one in the Hua Hin exhibition and doubles.
Sharapova d. Buzarnescu in three sets – Went for Sharapova in a tight three setter but I would not be the least bit surprised if Buzarnescu sweeps up the win. Sharapova should be rusty in her first match of the season whilst Buzarnescu has lots of weapons, and has already played some tennis in the ITF Dubai event.
Babos d. X.Wang in two sets – Ideal start for Babos to get a win.
Paolini d. Y.Wang in three sets – Well, who knows, but I’ve gone for Paolini who has gotten 2 matches under her belt during qualifying.
Sakkari d. Kovinic in two sets – Happy for Kovinic who finally got two wins during qualifying after a horrible 2017 season. But she hasn’t played anyone in the world’s top 300 so I think Sakkari would be able to sweep this one comfortably.
Diyas d. Parmentier in three sets – I see three sets written all over this match-up, but clueless to who will be the winner though! Slight instinct is with Diyas though.
Voegele d. Alexandrova in two sets – Both players are inconsistent hard-hitters but I’m going for the qualifier who should have already adapted to the conditions.
Day 1 – Shenzhen Predictions
Begu d. Liu in two sets – Ideal match against a World No.147 to shake off the rust for Begu.
Siniakova d. Jabeur in three sets – Siniakova won two titles in 2017 including this tournament so getting some wins here to back up her ranking is definitely crucial. Jabeur can be a tough opponent when she’s on form, but I’ll expect her to be too erratic at the end to upset the No.6 seed.
Q.Wang d. Riske in two sets – Tough match-up for Riske as she likes to redirect pace and it’s difficult to do it with Wang’s mostly counter-punching game. I think Riske will make too many errors to make this competitive.
Duan d. Rodina in three sets – Instinct with Duan’s aggressive game even though Rodina always gets one more ball back.
Niculescu d. Sabalenka in three sets – I’m screaming at this match-up hahahaha… Two players on the complete end of the spectrum face each other in a must-watch first round encounter. Most hard-hitters always fall into Niculescu’s web of trickery, and I’m not surprised if Sabalenka will ultimately do that too. Three sets is written all over this match 🙂
