Day 7 – San Jose Predictions

Buzarnescu d. Sakkari in three sets – Buzarnescu’s a winning machine and I don’t get how she’s able to play so many matches and still come out on top in most of them. She’s the more powerful player but Sakkari’s defensive skills should frustrate her at times. However, this is Sakkari’s first WTA final and Buzarnescu’s third – I think experience will come through in this one.

Day 6 – San Jose Predictions

Mertens d. Buzarnescu in three sets – Mertens has been playing well under her new coach and I think she’ll be a tad more solid and calm on the court. Buzarnescu’s scorelines this week hasn’t been that impressive.

Sakkari d. Collins in two sets – Sakkari has more experience at the latter end of a tournament and I don’t see Collins’ hard-hitting being able to hit through Sakkari, unless the Greece player is still reeling from her win over Venus.

Day 5 – San Jose Predictions

Buzarnescu d. Tomljanovic in two sets – Buzarnescu’s level has been a little up and down in San Jose but I don’t see Tomljanovic having the consistency to disturb her much at all.

Konta d. Mertens in three sets – Konta won their most recent match-up 6-2 6-1, but I feel this will be a slightly closer encounter. Konta has been playing extremely good tennis in San Jose and if Mertens sticks to defense and counterpunching most of the time, I don’t think the Belgian will stand a chance in this one.

Azarenka d. Collins in two sets –– I think Azarenka will find a way to get past Collins’ fiery game and groundstrokes and find her form once again.

V.Williams d. Sakkari in three sets – Venus plays with a lot of heart out there but playing back-to-back days can still be tough, especially after a physical encounter against Watson yesterday. Sakkari has dropped only five games in two matches here but if Venus gets on a roll, I don’t think she can handle the firepower of the American.

Day 4 – San Jose Predictions

Buzarnescu d. Anisimova in two sets – Nice to see Anisimova get a win so quickly after the injury problems she had after Miami. I think she can cause some problems for Buzarnescu with her power, but the latter is really strong in gritting out wins over players she is expected to beat.

Babos d. Sakkari in three sets – Both players haven’t been winning too many singles matches of late, and both tend to go on a mental wander. Could be a very long and messy encounter, slightly edging towards Babos’ power.

Keys d. Tomljanovic in two sets – A repeat match-up from Wimbledon where Keys won, 6-4 6-2. Keys likes facing the big-hitters instead of the defensive players and is able to produce her best tennis on home soil.

V.Williams d. Watson in two sets – Williams hasn’t been too convincing of late on the tour, but I doubt Watson has the nerves or consistency to upset the home player.

Day 1 – San Jose Selected Predictions

Sakkari d. McHale in three sets – Expect a lot of twists and turns as Sakkari is on a four-match losing streak, while McHale is prone to a lot of inconsistencies and mental fragility. Slightly edging towards Sakkari.

Azarenka d. Bondarenko in two sets – I think Bondarenko will provide some resistance but Azarenka will come through. She’s had tough times on the clay and grass but she’s always so good on the hard courts.

Riske d. Kratzer in two sets – Riske always seems to produce her best tennis on home soil and I expect the same here.
