Konta d. Vekic in two – Didn’t manage to see Vekic during the whole week in Nottingham but she hit 16 aces against Safarova which is an impressive stat! Konta’s serve has been also pretty awesome during the week (yes, I keep implying on that!) and her experience should see her through.
Konta d. Rybarikova in three – First huge test for Konta, she has been pretty dominant on serve this whole week but Rybarikova will be a new challenge, her game is perfectly suited to grass and she has been demolishing all her opponents this week. Feel that Konta will get through in a tight three setter, her serve should be the factor in this one.
Safarova d. Vekic in three – Safarova has been patchy this week, blowing hot and cold in between her sets. She was brilliant in her first set over Pironkova but suddenly became a different player and faded away in the second! She managed to get the win though and now faces Vekic, who has had a smooth road to the semifinals. Sticking with Safarova for this.
Previews of all the quarterfinal matches are here
Konta d. Barty in two
Rybarikova d. Ahn in two
Safarova d. Pironkova in three
Vekic d. Sakkari in three
Round 2 (6/8)
Konta d. Wickmayer in two – Wickmayer won their last encounter on grass but Konta has been an improved player since then.
Barty d. Fett in two – Have never seen Fett play on grass and Barty is pretty good on this surface.
Ryabarikova d. Riske in three – Seriously, this is the match to watch! Between two grass court stalwarts, the form player has been Rybarikova having won an ITF 100K grass title in Surbiton last week. However Riske always seems to play well on this surface, complete toss up for me!
Linette d. Ahn in two – Ahn notched a completely surprising demolition victory over Osaka, but Linette on grass is decent on grass.
Safarova d. Hsieh in two – Hsieh is in-form right now but Safarova deals well with variety and should get through this one.
Pironkova d. Nara in two – Expecting the grass court specialist to get through this one.
Vekic d. Boserup in three – Totally don’t know about this but Vekic is decent on grass.
McHale d. Sakkari in two – Out of this bottom quarter with no seeds, confident with McHale to break out of this section.
Round 1 (4/8)
*missed the matches with some qualifiers because I’m abroad, sorry!*
Konta d. Moore in two – Konta should win comfortably.
Barty d. Maria in three – Both players are decent on grass but I’ve never seen them play on this surface before; feel that Barty, who has more power should be able to hit through Maria.
Riske d. Watson in two – Brits are always tricky to take on in their hometowns but Riske should get the job done over a struggling Watson.
Dodin d. Linette in three – Both are OK on the grass courts but Dodin’s power should be the factor in this one.
Hsieh d. Kucova in three – Toss-up, don’t know their abilities on grass.
Davis d. Nara in two – Grass is apparently Davis’ worst surface but Nara hasn’t been playing fantastic tennis this season, the American should be able to win.
Vekic d. Rogers in three – Don’t ask me why but I’m feeling Vekic could score the upset, Rogers isn’t great on grass and the Croatian is decent on this surface.
Robson d. Boserup in two – Toss up, don’t know about Boserup’s tennis on grass.
Sevastova d. McHale in three – McHale can be tough to break down especially when it’s your first match on a new surface, but Sevastova should come through in a tough struggle.
