Kerber d. Pavlyuchenkova in three sets – Preview
Kerber d. Suarez Navarro in three sets – Preview
Pavlyuchenkova d. Garcia in two sets – Pavlyuchenkova has won their two previous encounters. The Russian’s fight and aggression shown in her match against Babos, I think that would happen once again against Garcia.
Kerber d. Watson in two sets – Watson is erratic while Kerber is the steady one. Kerber’s level has been great in Monterrey too!
Cornet d. Suarez Navarro in three sets – I was going to go with Suarez Navarro but picked Cornet in the end! Both haven’t lost a set in Monterrey so far, should be close.
Garcia d. Boserup in two sets – If Garcia doesn’t defeat Boserup, I’ll be shocked.
Pavlyuchenkova d. Babos in three sets – Preview
Round 2 (7/8)
Kerber d. Minella in two sets – Kerber’s match against Schiavone seemed like a high quality encounter – both players were hitting the ball quite well in a short highlight video I watched! Minella is playing well this year, but she doesn’t have the weapons to cause Kerber troubles.
Makarova d. Watson in two sets – Was a more comfortable encounter then I predicted, Makarova beat Allertova pretty smoothly from the scoreline. Think she’ll be able to get past Watson pretty smoothly.
Suarez Navarro d. Sorribes Tormo in two sets – Spain vs Spain here, Suarez Navarro has all the weapons to beat Sorribes Tormo if she’s playing well.
Cornet d. Vekic in three sets – Impressive stuff from Cornet in her win over Khromacheva! Not sure about going for three sets though, I think the Frenchwoman can navigate past Vekic even in two.
Boserup d. Martincova in two sets – Toss up, Boserup was great over my predicted quarterfinalist, Hibino, so going for her.
Garcia d. Podoroska in two sets – Don’t know much about Podoroska. Garcia has been prone to weird scorelines and losses this year!
Babos d. Broady in three sets – Broady can beat Babos on a good day, but just going with the seeding for this one.
Pavlyuchenkova d. Ahn in two sets – Pavlyuchenkova to make it to the quarters.
Round 1 (9/16)
Kerber d. Schiavone in two sets – Interesting to see how Kerber plays this match. Hopefully she plays more aggressively!
Minella d. Kotsova in two sets – In Kerber’s quarter, Minella has won the most matches in the season so far! Kotsova hasn’t won a main draw WTA match yet.
Watson d. Stojanovic in two sets – Hopefully Watson’s game revives in Monterrey – she’s the defending champ.
Makarova d. Allertova in three sets – Allertova has firepower but hasn’t won a main draw WTA match yet. Makarova should grind out the win in three.
Suarez Navarro d. Van Uytvanck in two sets – Suarez Navarro has lost three straight matches, having only won one match in 2017. Monterrey’s her chance to gain some points.
Bouchard d. Sorribes Tormo in two sets – You never know when Bouchard’s going to win or lose.
Tig d. Vekic in three sets – Tig made the third round in Miami last year after coming out of qualifying. She’s playing pretty well, going for her to beat Vekic.
Cornet d. Khromacheva in two sets – Hopefully Cornet’s injury woes are completely gone, I went for her to make the semifinals in my tournament preview!
McHale d. Martincova in two sets – Don’t think Martincova will trouble McHale.
Hibino d. Boserup in two sets – Hibino made the final of Kuala Lumpur in March, while Boserup’s best result of the year came in the semifinals of an ITF tournament.
Brengle d. Podoroska in two sets – Brengle has been struggling throughout the year, maybe it’s her chance to make a run here?
Garcia d. Zarazua in two sets – Not expecting Zarazua to do too much damage against a hard-hitting Garcia. The Frenchwoman has good history in Monterrey, making the finals in 2015 and semifinals in 2016.
Babos d. Kerkhove in two sets – Babos should win this.
Bellis d. Broady in three sets – One of my favourite first rounders here in Monterrey! Should be a firecracker.
Cepelova d. Ahn in three sets – Never heard of qualifier Ahn before so going for Cepelova. She makes me a little worried though!
Pavlyuchenkova d. Maria in two sets – Just realised that Pavs has actually won this tournament thrice! She should do well once again.
