Mallorca 2018 WTA – Daily Predictions

Mallorca Open Predictions

Day 7 – Mallorca Predictions

Sevastova d. Maria in two sets – Both players have similar games, but Sevastova possesses more power and is the more experienced player at this stage. Sevastova is into her third straight Mallorca final and just seems to love playing here.

Day 6 – Mallorca Predictions

Please take these with a pinch of salt as I didn’t watch much of the tennis yesterday!

Maria d. Kenin in three sets

Sevastova d. Stosur in two sets

Day 5 – Mallorca Predictions

Garcia d. Kenin in two sets – I’ve watched Kenin a few times and I know her game mostly relies on defense, and I don’t think she really does suit the grass. Garcia’s aggressive play can easily overpower her and I think her experience and great record in Mallorca should be a key factor.

Safarova d. Maria in two sets – It seems like Safarova played a really good match against Azarenka, and if she’s able to bring it to this one Maria’s mostly counter-punching game should stand little chance.

Sevastova d. Tomljanovic in three sets – I’m expecting a similar scoreline as to Lottner-Sevastova; Tomljanovic’s easy power to win the first set, but Sevastova’s guile, experience and more solid play to come through in the end.

Riske d. Stosur in two sets – Grass + Riske = amazing tennis!

Day 4 – Mallorca Predictions

Riske d. Hercog in two sets

Tomljanovic d. Peterson in three sets

Sevastova d. Lottner in three sets

Safarova d. Azarenka in three sets

Day 3 – Mallorca Predictions

Van Uytvanck d. Kenin in two sets – Don’t think Kenin will pose too many problems. Van Uytvanck’s grass court prowess to shine through.

Witthoeft d. Maria in three sets – Witthoeft leads the head to head 5-2, including two wins this year in straight sets. Maria is more potent on grass though and I’ll give her a set.

Arruabarrena d. Stosur in three sets – Arruabarrena leads the head to head 2-0 and I’m not very convinced by Stosur at the moment… if the Spaniard gets more balls back and force Stosur into errors she should be able to score the win.

Garcia d. Larsson in two sets – Garcia got off to a highly scrappy start against Hsieh but Larsson likely won’t pose too many issues for her.

Day 2 – Mallorca Predictions

Safarova d. Kostyuk in three sets – Kostyuk will be playing her first ever WTA main draw event on grass and this will only be her fourth match on the green stuff in her career. Safarova will be playing just her third tournament since returning from injury but I expect her experience to expose Kostyuk’s weaknesses.

Garcia d. Hsieh in three sets – Both players will be playing their first matches on grass for the season. Hsieh’s game is a perfect fit for the grass, and I expect some rust from Garcia, but Garcia leads the head to head 2-0 and should come through this one.

Sevastova d. Kuznetsova in two sets – Kuznetsova has never really been able to excel on the grass in her career and she hasn’t been able to win many matches since returning from injury. Kuznetsova leads the head to head 3-0, but Sevastova is the more consistent player right now and her lethal slice backhand is a good weapon on this surface.

Azarenka d. Voegele in two sets – Expecting some resistance from Voegele, but Azarenka to come through in two tight sets.

Kerber d. Riske in two sets – This will be Kerber’s first grass event of the year and meanwhile, Riske has already played 11(!) matches on the grass this year. Kerber though leads the head to head 3-0 and has never dropped a set in this match-up. Kerber in two tight sets…

Lottner d. Sasnovich in three sets – I can see why Lottner is excelling on the grass, having reached the quarterfinals of ‘s-Hertogenbosch last week and now successfully qualifying for Mallorca. If Lottner is able to stay consistent enough then Sasnovich won’t be able to do too much to disturb her rhythm.

Peterson d. Collins in two sets – Collins has only played one match on grass in her entire career and she’ll definitely need some time to adjust. Having qualified for the main draw, Peterson should be acquitted with the conditions and be the more solid player in the baseline rallies.

Cirstea d. Larsson in two sets – Cirstea leads the head to head 3-0, and it all depends on her in this one as Larsson doesn’t have too many weapons on this surface. I think she should be OK…

Kenin d. Kozlova in three sets

Tomljanovic d. Linette in three sets – Tomljanovic leads the head to head 2-0, but both of those match-ups came on clay. Tomljanovic is super dangerous on grass and is winning matches on a consistent basis at the moment.

Kuzmova d. Hercog in two sets

Day 1 – Mallorca Predictions (a flop day…)

Vondrousova d. Stosur in three sets

Kontaveit d. Maria in two sets

Schiavone d. Witthoeft in three sets

Suarez Navarro d. Arruabarrena in two sets

Van Uytvanck d. Sabalenka in three sets
