Mallorca Open 2017 Predictions
Goerges d. Sevastova in two – Goerges is playing fantastic tennis this week, wouldn’t be surprised to see her win her first grass court title!
Goerges d. Bellis in three – Goerges should overpower Bellis although she has been playing brilliant tennis.
Garcia d. Sevastova in three – Repeat of last year’s Mallorca final, leaning towards Garcia’s power.
Goerges d. Lisicki in two – Between the two Germans, Goerges has the more firepower and I’m not sure Lisicki can handle it.
Pliskova d. Bellis in three – Pliskova’s serve on grass is HUGE. Tough match for Bellis considering this is her first WTA grass tournament.
Konjuh d. Sevastova in three – Konjuh played probably one of the best matches ever of her career against Azarenka; if she keeps it going she should be able to beat Sevastova.
Round 2 (5/8)
Pavlyuchenkova d. Goerges in three – Pavlyuchenkova’s level will have to be much higher than her win against Sara Sorribes Tormo, upset alert here as Goerges comfortably cruised past Arruabarrena but I’ll stick with the top seed.
Rogers d. Lisicki in three – Didn’t get to watch Lisicki’s victory, happy for the German but Rogers will be a much tougher test and I don’t know if she can handle the American’s power that early in her comeback.
Bellis d. Barthel in two – Bellis had a great win over Suarez Navarro, confident for her to continue her winning ways.
Kr.Pliskova d. Schiavone in three – More confident with Pliskova on grass.
Vinci d. Flipkens in three – Battle of the backhand slices; Vinci is more proficient on grass.
Garcia d. Cepelova in two – Don’t think Garcia will face any difficulties here.
Konjuh d. Azarenka in three – There were glimpses of vintage Vika in her win over Ozaki but she made tons of errors and will have to try to cut it down against a more experienced, Konjuh.
Sevastova d. Lepchenko in two – Sevastova had a solid win over Mertens and if she produces that again it should be enough to beat Lepchenko.
Round 1 (13/15)
Pavyluchenkova d. Sorribes Tormo in two – Sorribes Tormo has only played six matches on grass in her entire career. Expecting Pavlyuchenkova to win this comfortably.
Goerges d. Arruabarrena in three – Arruabarrena has a steady game but Goerges can overpower her easily especially on grass. The German’s game can be erratic though, so I’m not surprised if it goes the distance.
Rogers d. Haddad Maia in two – Rogers’ power should be able to dismantle Haddad Maia’s game.
Where did my predictions for Lisicki-Bertens go? smh…
Bellis d. Suarez Navarro in three – Suarez Navarro does not like the grass but she is improving, the results also have shown that as she reached the semifinals of Birmingham last year. On her first match on grass, I think Bellis can take advantage of the Spaniard’s fragility on this surface.
Barthel d. Kalinskaya in three – The green stuff is not Barthel’s favourite and against a qualifier who is already suited to the conditions, an upset can be a possibility.
Bouchard d. Schiavone in three – Schiavone still has some fight in her but grass won’t help her game at all. Bouchard can be erratic but if she doesn’t win this there is definitely something wrong with her.
Kr.Pliskova d. Babos in three – Babos is on a five-match losing streak and hasn’t beaten a Top 100 player since Indian Wells. Kristyna Pliskova has always done well on grass and should be able to take advantage of the Hungarian’s bad form
Flipkens d. Minella in three – Flipkens’ game is good on grass, like Vinci she has the low bouncing slice but Minella and her are good friends and should know each other’s games well. Going for the qualifier in three.
Cepelova d. Parmentier in two – Parmentier doesn’t have a game that suits grass, in fact she is 3-15 lifetime on this surface! Qualifier Cepelova should take advantage of this.
Garcia d. Jankovic in two – Jankovic is low on confidence and last year’s Mallorca champion Garcia should win this.
Konjuh d. Jabeur in two – Jabeur is in good form recently but Konjuh should win this relatively easy unless she is feeling fatigue from her ‘s-Hertogenbosch exploits.
Azarenka d. Ozaki in three – Ozaki is a winnable match for Azarenka but this being her first match, anything can happen!
Cepede Royg d. Lepchenko in three – Cepede Royg is in brilliant form and should beat Lepchenko who is not that confident at the moment.
Sevastova d. Mertens in three – Both players lost their first match on grass last week but Sevastova’s variety can disturb Mertens.
