Ostapenko d. Kasatkina in three sets – Preview
Lucic-Baroni d. Ostapenko in three sets – Between the big-hitting players, Lucic-Baroni has more margin but both can be erratic at times. I’m going for Lucic-Baroni here in a tight three setter, she plays better on clay than Ostapenko but it could go either ways.
Siegemund d. Kasatkina in three sets – Both are excellent clay courters and they have been playing so well in Charleston! I’m more confident going for Siegemund, her level has been so high this week.
Rogers d. Lucic-Baroni in three sets – Rogers is playing fantastic this week. Haven’t seen Lucic-Baroni in action this week so don’t really know her level. On the fence with this one.
Wozniacki d. Ostapenko in two sets – Wozniacki would win it in on a normal day but not sure of her level after playing two matches yesterday. A still going with her though!
Siegemund d. Sevastova in two sets – Didn’t expect both of them to make the quarterfinals. Siegemund is having a dream run on the clay so going for the German.
Kasatkina d. Begu in three sets – This could be fun! Both are brilliant clay counters but my hunch points to Kasatkina.
Round 3 (3/7)
Osaka d. Rogers in three sets – Rogers-Osaka is one fun one to watch! I have a small hunch that Osaka can make a fine run here in Charleston so going for the Japanese.
Lucic-Baroni d. Bertens in two sets – Bertens loves the clay but Lucic-Baroni is in fine form. Can’t see Bertens’ second round match against Bondarenko so don’t really know her standard so far!
Ostapenko d. Stollar in three sets – Stollar is having a great run. Could go three sets.
Wozniacki d. Rodionova in two sets – Wozniacki should win.
Jabeur d. Sevastova in three sets – Going for the upset here but with not much confidence!
Safarova d. Siegemund in two sets – Should be a fun one with two great clay courters.
Stosur d. Begu in three sets – Begu just edged past Kucova in her third round win! Stosur has had a day of rest so she will be the more refreshed one.
Kasatkina d. Gavrilova in three sets – Preview
Round 2 (10/16)
Keys d. Rogers in two sets – The Charleston native looked so nervous in serving out the match multiple times against Cepede Royg. Keys does a little better in everything Rogers does, should win in straights.
Osaka d. Zhang in three sets – In their previous encounter, Osaka blew Zhang off the court with her firepower and depth. Could be a repeat of that again.
Lucic-Baroni d. Barthel in two sets – Didn’t know clay was Lucic-Baroni’s favourite surface haha! The faster green clay will help the Croatian.
Bertens d. Bondarenko in three sets – Bertens has been horrendous this season. Picking her with little confidence but it’s her favourite clay so she can win if she’s having a good day.
Vesnina d. Stollar in two sets – If Vesnina loses, I’ll be shocked.
Sakkari d. Ostapenko in three sets – Big hitter vs big hitter. Sakkari is the more consistent and patient one though.
Errani d. Rodionova in two sets – Errani beat Min 6-1 6-1 in the first round so I have much confidence in picking the Italian.
Wozniacki d. Beck in two sets – They have the same game styles but Wozniacki is the better player and should win this unless fatigue catches up with her.
Petkovic d. Sevastova in three sets – Petkovic is comfortable on this surface, and Sevastova hasn’t played on the green clay before.
Jabeur d. Linette in three sets – No idea who to choose here. Picking Jabeur cause she had the better year so far and was pretty good in her first rounder against Erakovic,
Safarova d. Mattek-Sands in three sets – I want to watch this match!!! They are both in great form, it’s gonna be a nice one with a great hug at the net.
V.Williams d. Siegemund in two sets – Venus should win.
Stosur d. Jankovic in three sets – Jankovic looked really unsteady when serving out the match against Alexandrova, I think Stosur will edge this encounter.
Begu d. Kucova in two sets – Begu dropped a double begul (bagel) on Buyukakcay which was surprising! She should be dominant against Kucova too.
Kasatkina d. Puig in three sets – Preview
Gavrilova d. Riske in three sets – Gavrilova is more handy on clay than Riske.
Round 1 (16/22)
Rogers d. Cepede Royg in two sets – Cepede Royg has two matches under her belt but Rogers, who is handy on clay, to pull through.
Osaka d. Larsson in three sets – Larsson is the better clay courter but the faster green clay should help Osaka.
Zhang d. Doi in two sets – Doi hasn’t won a match since Dubai. Zhang’s consistency should shine through.
Lucic-Baroni d. Krunic in two sets – Haven’t seen Lucic-Baroni play too much tennis on clay so not sure of my pick.
Brady d. Barthel in three sets – Going for an Australian Open R16 rematch, Lucic-Baroni-Brady.
Bondarenko d. Rodina in three sets – Bondarenko has been slightly better in 2017 so picking the Ukrainian.
Muhammad d. Stollar in two sets – Going with Muhammad since never heard of Stollar before.
Ostapenko d. Bogdan in three sets – Ostapenko isn’t really a clay counter – having only won 2 matches in last year’s clay swing. Giving Bogdan a set.
Davis d. Sakkari in two sets – Davis is in fine form and her draw gives her a fine opportunity to go far in Charleston.
Errani d. Min in two sets – Errani loves the clay, should win this.
Duan d. Rodionova in three sets – Haven’t seen Duan play on clay courts though. Rodionova could take this one, having went through qualifying.
Chirico d. Beck in two sets – Clay was where Chirico burst into prominence last year. Faster green clay courts should suit her even better.
Arruabarrena d. Petkovic in two sets – Arruabarrena is playing fine tennis, and loves the clay. Should be able to make it into the next round over an ailing Petkovic.
Jabeur d. Erakovic in three sets – These two haven’t met before, picking Jabeur who has the better record this year.
Putintseva d. Linette in three sets – Linette leads the HTH 2-0, but Putintseva played well in Charleston last year and is the better player of the two.
Safarova d. Lepchenko in two sets – Battle of the left handers. Safarova should win this.
Mattek-Sands d. Kenin in three sets– Kenin won her 2 qualifying matches in straights, including one over top seed Taylor Townsend. Going for Team Bucie to face one another in 2R.
Siegemund d. Tsurenko in two sets – Tsurenko has been playing well this year but has been struggling with injuries, while Siegemund enjoys playing on the dirt.
Jankovic d. Alexandrova in two sets – Former champion Jankovic to win this.
Kucova d. Soler-Espinosa in two sets – Don’t really know much about Soler-Espinosa.
Begu d. Buyukakcay in two sets – Charleston is where Begu started her clay streak last year. Buyukakcay hasn’t won a match throughout 2017.
Siniakova d. Puig in three sets – Toss up, think Siniakova will just pull through this.
Kasatkina d. Kovinic in three sets – Both are on losing streaks but last year’s quarterfinalist Kasatkina should pass this hurdle.
Riske d. Day in three sets – Riske doesn’t like clay, maybe Day could even take this match.
