Garbine Muguruza meets Caroline Wozniacki in a blockbuster round 4 encounter at the Miami Open.
(6) Garbine Muguruza (No.6) vs (12) Caroline Wozniacki (No.14)
Overview: Garbine Muguruza struggled in her second round encounter of the Miami Open when she lost the first set to Christina McHale 0-6. A rain delay resulted in the match being postponed, and it helped Muguruza as she battled from match point down in the second set to win 0-6 7-6 6-4. The Spaniard again came from a set down in her next match, beating Zhang Shuai 4-6 6-2 6-2. Muguruza has not played her best since the Roland Garros title, but she has been fighting especially in Indian Wells and now in Miami which is a good sign for the Spaniard.
Caroline Wozniacki is a player that no one would want to face as of yet. The Dane made two final in Doha and Dubai and reached the quarterfinals in Indian Wells last week. Wozniacki cruised through her first two matches so far, beating Varvara Lepchenko with the loss of three games and dismantled Sorana Cirstea 6-4 6-2. It’s so tough to break down Wozniacki’s game in this year and Muguruza will need to put in her utmost effort if she is to reach the semifinals.
Head to head: They have met four times before, once even in Miami back in 2013 where Muguruza won 6-2 6-4. Muguruza leads this HTH 3-1.
Thoughts: It all depends on Muguruza, whether she can play with more margin, attack the Dane’s weaker forehand, serve well, and volley well. However I suspect Wozniacki will be too consistent and give nothing away, and Muguruza will start to make more unforced errors. Wozniacki for the win in straights.
Prediction: Wozniacki to beat Muguruza in two
