Caroline Wozniacki and Kristina Mladenovic will meet each other for the fourth time in the BNP Paribas Open quarterfinal. Both players have not dropped a set enroute to the last 8; and this should be a high-quality encounter.
(13) Caroline Wozniacki (No.14) vs (28) Kristina Mladenovic (No.26)
Overview: Caroline Wozniacki is in great form in Indian Wells. The Dane flew past Magda Linette and Katerina Siniakova in her first two rounds. A blockbuster match in the fourth round against Madison Keys awaited Wozniacki, but the latter’s defence was too strong and she again got through the match in straights. The World No.14 is in great form, making into the finals in her two previous tournaments, and Mladenovic will need to be at her best if she wants to reach the semifinals.
Mladenovic has already won 15 matches this year coming into the quarterfinal here. She has already made two finals in 2017, winning one at the St.Petersburg Ladies Trophy but losing the other in Acapulco. Mladenovic has easily past through her three matches in Indian Wells, first cruising past Annika Beck then upsetting Simona Halep. The Frenchwoman played against Lauren Davis in the fourth round, and it was a one way encounter in that too.
Head to head: Wozniacki leads the head to head 3-0. Their previous encounter came in last year’s Hong Kong final, where the Dane needed three sets to oust Mladenovic. All encounters occured on hard courts.
Thoughts: This should be a great encounter. Mladenovic plays aggressive, especially on the inside out forehand, while a Wozniacki is obviously the defender. I think Wozniacki should come through this comfortably, she has been playing very solid and the one extra ball that she gives will trouble Mladenovic.
Prediction: Wozniacki to defeat Mladenovic in two
